Designing the city

When, in 1945, the people of Le Havre faced the ruins of their destroyed city, the French State called architects, urban planners and builders. Anything seemed possible on this “tabula rasa” or empty territory, it offered an opportunity to recreate, invent even a new city. Entrusted to Auguste Perret and his Studio, the reconstruction of Le Havre, became the largest and most impressive building site in France, meaning to give the city and its port their lives back.
