The Halles Centrales: French Covered Market.

The Halles centrales

It is the city’s covered market: butcher shops, deli counters, cheese and grocer stalls…. The covered market has a nicely rounded vaulted roof; it does not follow the Perret rules but rather the style popular for such places in the 1950s.

The Halles were built in 1960 by architects André Le Donné, Charles Fabre and Jean Le Soudier, rearranged and enlarged in 1999 and 2002. As of old, you can still find there the best products the city offers to charm your palate. On Sunday mornings, the outdoor market invades the surrounding streets, animated by the noise of street sellers and the people at the sunny terraces.
